Edwards and O'Neil are two of the initial names in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday following the team's 10-match without a victory start to the Premier League campaign.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous associations to the club - are part of the names to be considered by the club ownership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a potential hurdle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

However the ex- Luton Town manager - who played more than 100 of appearances for the club during his playing career - is said to be a leading contender for the vacancy.

The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves board as they begin the search of appointing a fresh manager.

O'Neil is additionally appearing as a surprise contender, even though he would be a shock appointment given he was released by Wolves in the previous winter.

The former West Ham player is out of work which means Wolves would not need to provide any compensation.
