The January transfer market proves to be a period of significant rumour and possible major deals. A number of prominent players are being connected to transfers away from their present teams. We examine a selection of the top figures who could be changing clubs this month.

A. Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, this has kept the forward available, reports suggest a significant transfer is close. The 25-year-old has a deal with a £65 million release clause applicable for a brief period in early January. Latest reports point to the Premier League champions have emerged as his services. Other suitors like Chelsea and Tottenham reportedly have turned their attention to alternative targets, leaving clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a late bid.

M. Guéhi

The England centre-back has continued to impress for Crystal Palace despite a previous move to Liverpool falling through. As his contract due to expire in the summer, January is the club's final opportunity to secure a transfer fee for their skipper. A host of elite clubs, including City and multiple continental powerhouses including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly hold an interest. However, a winter departure is considered difficult, particularly given the coach's reliance on the player.

B. Johnson

This Wales forward has had starting minutes limited at Tottenham this campaign. Despite being the side's top scorer last season, Johnson has begun only a handful of league matches. It is understood the London club is willing to consider a transfer for the correct valuation, thought to be in the around forty million pounds. Bournemouth appear to be at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also credited with an inquiry.

Rúben Neves

The Portuguese midfielder might be poised for a comeback to the English top flight following a period in Saudi Arabia. Still just 28, and with his contract ending in the summer, he represents a possible opportunity. Teams such as Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with the player. Additionally, there are rumours from Spanish media that he would be prepared to accept a reduced salary for a switch to the Spanish giants.

M. ter Stegen

The experienced German shot-stopper is now as third-choice at Barcelona following new coach Flick. Having fallen out of favour and had an operation, a January exit looks increasingly probable. Aston Villa were initially mentioned as a potential destination, but that move currently seems unlikely. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly showing interest in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

The proven England striker has kept scoring frequently in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League could enhance his dwindling chances of making the England squad. However, securing a transfer presents significant hurdles. His current club are reluctant to sell him, and his reported enormous salary make any agreement difficult. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United are all mentioned as interested parties.

C. Gallagher

This energetic midfielder drew considerable attention in the off-season but remained at Atlético Madrid. With limited starts in La Liga this season, he is eager to secure more minutes ahead of the tournament. Manchester United have been heavily connected, and a move back to Crystal Palace, where he excelled on loan, is also a possibility, although financial constraints could be a stumbling block.

H. Elliott

Although excelling and winning the best player award at the Under-21 European Championship last summer, the young player has found it tough for minutes during his loan spell at Villa. The manager has confirmed the loan move will not be made permanent. Due to FIFA regulations about representing two clubs in a campaign, a move back to his parent club prior to next season seems to be the sole available outcome.

K. Yildiz

The exciting Turkey attacker is in excellent form for Juventus this season. With his current deal nearing its end, a host of Premier League sides – including Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are monitoring the developments. Juventus are desperate to tie down the 20-year-old to a new long-term agreement but face a race to keep one of Europe's brightest prospects.

K. Smit

This much-admired Netherlands midfielder has earned comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. Following starring at the U19 Euros, Smit has broken into the AZ first team. The 19-year-old is widely tipped to complete a major move in January. Newcastle United are believed to be leading the chase, but are facing strong competition from Real Madrid for a signing valued at around £22 million.
