Widespread Snow Warnings for Friday Heading into Friday, advisories are active across Northern Ireland and extending from Wales, over the north-west, the West Midlands and through to London and the majority of the south-east of England. Commuting is likely to be disrupted. People have been urged to plan for delays for journeys on the road. Delays and cancellations are expected on trains and buses. Readings Expected to Fall Even More As 2026 begins, it will be "frosty everywhere where you are," stated forecaster Simon Partridge. Conditions are expected to drop further as snow and gale-force winds are expected to batter the north of the country. About 10cm of snow is forecast to have built up in some areas by Friday morning, with up to 30cm on the top roads and uplands. Health Advisories Issued Meanwhile, serious cold weather health warnings are in force for the north-east and north-west of England. These are expected to remain in place until noon on 5 January, with the mercury forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C. The health agency stated this meant the weather was likely to cause major effects across medical and care provision. This includes a expected uptick in the number of deaths among the elderly or unwell or those in the older age groups.
