Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat

Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his future following another convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 games, representing the club's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got a lot of support from above,” Slot remarked.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”

He continued, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with Club Management

Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”

Recurring Failings and Player Response

The manager expressed regret over known shortcomings from his squad in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder said.

“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase like this with results so bad.”

Jones finished, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until it is gone, we'll continue to battle.”

“We’re going to try to help the side return to the top, show everyone again what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”

“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
