Alpine star Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in a good place" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, on the back of securing a place on the rostrum for the fourth time in five World Cup events. The 41-year-old, who last week set a record by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result. Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere Returning to the French Alps resort for the first occasion in eight years, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing second place. "I was slightly lacking enough direction on the first jump," the skier commented. "After that, I performed strongly. I'm satisfied with my performance today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious." This performance was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also claimed bronze in the downhill race on Saturday. An Incredible Return from Retirement Vonn officially retired in February 2019 as a result of ongoing knee problems. However, she made a stunning return in December 2024 after a partial knee replacement. With just over six weeks remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's form are highly promising. She already possesses an Olympic gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is strongly positioned to represent the United States at the next Olympics. "In Cortina, I will be fully ready," the athlete confirmed. Chasing More Titles Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning 20 years. She currently holds a substantial lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the overall super-G standings. This season's World Cup circuit features a total of nine races scheduled before the season finals in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
