It might not have been at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven. Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood. “This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a current administration. “Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.” The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House. The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year. A New Life This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release. “The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message. “It embodies the essence of Miami: joyful, diverse, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.” Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
