It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
